Today was a day of ... Red Hat Fun

My neighbour Marcy is taking this picture in her front yard - right across the street from my house. I am wearing a beautiful red hat that is trimmed with faux leopard skin material. I added a type of frog (thingy to hold a cape in place) in a faux leopard skin material, to my red cape.

I am carrying a wine glass in its carrier that was made for me by my Red Hat Sister Barb Yeo. I had asked her to make me one and had paid her. She had asked if I wanted anything particular for design - I said whatever. She makes some from material with red hats all over, others are plain material and so on. Well, when I saw this one I was floored. She found leopard skin print material ! She had seen my hat and decided to make it to go with. Yay Barb. I still grin when I see it.

Inside the carrier is a wine glass that has a red hat painted on it. Another of our Red Hat Sisters paints those and always gives one to each new member. If we want more they cost a few dollars. When we go out we are supposed to bring our wine glasses to drink from. At a big event like today's it looks cool to see one group (ours) with matching glasses.

This is a close up to show my hat. I am so delighted with this chapeau. My lovely daughter Esther bought it for me for my 60th birthday. She was living in Victoria at the time and I went down there for a long weekend to be with her and celebrate my birthday. She had seen this hat and took me into the store to see if I liked it. When I saw it I loved it so she bought it for me. Thank you so very much Esther. I love wearing it and everyone who sees it loves it.

Some of the ladies just slap a red ball cap on their heads but some of us (like me) enjoy playing 'dress-up' and go all out with our hats and costumes. I can't imagine not doing so. That is for me. For others - if they just want to wear a ball cap that is their business, but you will not be likely to see me in one.

To the right are the items that were at each place setting. The areas that show orange in this picture are really red. There is a kazoo and a pouch to carry it in, a red hat with a magnet on the back and a marker pen. We also had a sheet of paper with a bingo card of people's names. The first 75 people to buy tickets to the event were listed on the cards. Yep, of course I was one of those. But not the one that said Mary Lou. I am M'Lou.

We had a practice with our Kazoos. Can you imagine the din created by 100 women Kazooing? Oh boy! I lost my first Kazoo so now I have one to bring to events. I don't know where this started but must have been in California because most groups carry them.

The Red Hat Peaches had a table of stuff for sale. I brought a bunch of scarves, a couple of pieces of cheap jewelry and a pair of red gloves. Everything was new off eBay. I sold everything except the gloves. I haven't counted yet but I know I sold over $50 of stuff and made over $30 profit. Pretty good.

Then I went shopping at Vendors tables. There was some awesome stuff but pricey and I really don't need anything. The item to the right is a purse holder. Again, it is a deep red not orange. You hang you purse strap over the hook part and put the square part on top of a table and voila - it is off the floor and nicely balanced. It twists to fold flat for easy carrying in your purse. I plan to keep it in my purse all the time, not just for Red Hat events.

Well, that was my day. I have been eating Tylenol #3 as often as possible so the pain is under control. I did question myself as to whether it would be best to stay home but I had my ticket ($15) and I knew I would enjoy myself, so I pushed and got myself out the door. Now I am home and am going to have a quick bite to eat and lie down for an hour or so. I am hungry because I couldn't eat much while there. Lunch was sandwiches and since I am trying to remain fairly gluten free, I had to forgo them. I did have a few pieces of salomi and a couple of coctail onions plus of course a glass of wine in my Red Hat glass.
